Fair Food WA Background
Food WA (FFWA) is a network of not-for-profit organisations (including the food relief sector), research institutes, advocacy groups, relevant
government agencies, and peak bodies working together to address food insecurity in Western Australia (WA). FFWA is supported by Lotterywest.
FFWA have a vision for a Western Australian food system that provides all people with equitable access to healthy and affordable food.
Our purspose is to:
- Address food insecurity in Western Australia;
- Advocate for the needs of consumers of food relief, including access to safe, dignified, nutritious and culturally appropriate food; and
- Represent the interests of the charity food sector and contribute to improved outcomes across the spectrum of food supply and distribution systems.
Formerly known as the Food Relief Planning Group, Fair Food WA (FFWA) was established in 2017 to develop a strategic charity food relief framework in Western Australia (WA). This work was auspiced by the WA Council of Social Service (WACOSS), the Peak body for the community service sector.
The Food Relief Planning group launched the Food Relief Framework in 2019 and generated a range of solutions-focused outcomes for WA’s charity and food relief sector. Following the intersectoral roundtable hosted by Premier McGowan in early 2020, the group rebranded to Fair Food WA and applied the Framework findings in a practical way during COVID-19 and multiple disaster events.
FFWA was awarded the Moore Australia (WA) Gold Award for Best Practice in Collaboration Between Government and any other organisation at the 2021 IPAA Awards.
